Much of New Guinea’s Arabica is grown, washed and further processed by natives of rural, and sometimes isolated villages located in high altitude mountainous regions. These coffees are an important source of revenue for Papua New Guinea, providing a living for hundreds of thousands of people. The government provides support by ensuring pricing at the start of each year’s crop. New Guinea coffees have good body and sweetness, and a higher acidity.
